Position Summary
Express Employment Professionals is seeking a Centerless Grinder / Setup Operator for a long-term role with a high-precision manufacturing client in the Sycamore area. This position requires hands-on experience with machine setup, process control, and tight-tolerance production in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform full setup and operation of centerless grinding machines (thru-feed and/or in-feed)
- Select, mount, and dress grinding and regulating wheels to achieve required tolerances
- Adjust feeds, speeds, work rest height, and coolant flow to optimize cycle time and surface finish
- Monitor part geometry including OD, roundness, straightness, and surface finish
- Inspect parts using precision measurement tools (micrometers, snap gauges, air gauges, etc.)
- Conduct in-process inspections and make real-time machine adjustments
- Troubleshoot grinding issues such as chatter, taper, burn, and size variation
- Complete SPC, quality, and production documentation
- Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with changeovers
- Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of hands-on centerless grinding experience
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions
- Experience holding tight tolerances in a production environment
- Solid understanding of grinding theory and process control
- Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills
- Reliable attendance and ability to work independently
Compensation & Schedule
- $25.00-$27.00/hour, based on experience
- Full-time, steady day shift
