Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Feeder Operator to serve as an assistant to the Pressman, ensuring print jobs run smoothly and efficiently. This role requires understanding of business operations and alignment with department objectives to exceed customer expectations while maintaining high quality and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Press Operations Support:
- Assist the pressman in all aspects of print job execution
- Participate in team make-readies and preparation
- Clean blankets and change rollers with crew members
- Operate feeding equipment for printing presses
- Perform make-ready and registration tasks for press operations
- Execute wash-up procedures for printing presses
Quality Control & Documentation:
- Review and prepare job tickets and paperwork for upcoming jobs
- Pull defective sheets as required during production
- Inspect sheets and identify defects to maintain quality standards
- Use SAP/PEAK reporting systems for documentation
- Deliver quality cut loads to the Printing Department
Maintenance & Operations:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks as required
- Clean work area around press equipment
- Conduct basic troubleshooting for sheeter equipment
- Adjust equipment to maximize production and ensure quality standards
Communication & Teamwork:
- Keep department managers informed of safety, quality, or production issues
- Report improvement opportunities to management
- Work collaboratively toward achieving department goals
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervision
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1-3 years of related experience and/or training
- Experience in printing or manufacturing environment preferred
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing practices
- Understanding of sheet-fed printing requirements
- Basic mechanical ability for equipment adjustments
- Proficiency with computer systems and data entry
- Ability to use reporting software (SAP/PEAK experience preferred)
- Basic troubleshooting skills for printing equipment
Essential Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret and translate designs and documentation
- Color matching and defect detection capabilities
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow job tickets
- Ability to lift, move, and handle paper rolls and sheets
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking 34-66% of work time
- Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling of 10 lbs
- Occasional lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs
- Frequent stair climbing, kneeling, crouching, and balancing
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to work at elevated positions occasionally
- Required to wear PPE (safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection)
- Ability to read computer screens and operate various equipment
Schedule Requirements
- Must be able to work 8-hour shifts plus overtime as required
- Flexibility to work alternate schedules including early mornings, nights, and weekends
- Punctual attendance is essential
