Job Overview:
Express Employment Professionals is seeking a Field Locomotive Mechanic for a client specializing in locomotive maintenance, repair, and overhauls. This position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining locomotives, air compressors, and related mechanical and electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have strong diesel or locomotive mechanical experience and the ability to troubleshoot, rebuild, and restore equipment to operating condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair locomotives, air compressors, and other mechanical equipment.
- Perform disassembly, rebuilding, replacement, installation, adjustment, alignment, and lubrication of mechanical components.
- Rebuild air compressors and engine components, including measuring parts with calipers and micrometers to ensure proper tolerances.
- Perform electrical testing and repair of batteries, lighting circuits, electrical components, and related equipment.
- Complete inspections and communicate findings to supervisors and team members.
- Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication work as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records and follow all safety procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Previous experience repairing/maintaining diesel engines or heavy equipment maintenance
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems
- Air compression rebuild and overhaul experience (preferred)
- Welding and fabrication experience (preferred)
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers and micrometers
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
