Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to support construction and site development projects. This role is responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery to complete excavation, grading, and material handling tasks. Ideal candidates will have hands-on equipment experience, strong awareness of safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced jobsite environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, loaders, and backhoes
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, and site preparation work according to project specifications
- Load, move, and distribute materials safely and efficiently
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections to ensure safe operation
- Identify and report mechanical issues and assist with basic maintenance
- Follow site plans, grade stakes, and blueprints to complete tasks accurately
- Work closely with crew members to maintain workflow and meet project timelines
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulations, and company procedures
- Maintain clean and organized equipment and jobsite areas
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction or similar environments
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices and equipment operation
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and grade stakes
- Experience with excavation, grading, or utility work preferred
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding conditions
- Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GPS-guided equipment or grade control systems
- OSHA certification or safety training
- Experience in underground utilities, sitework, or road construction
- Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment maintenance
