HVAC Technician -
Position Summary:
The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This role ensures indoor comfort and air quality by performing routine inspections, troubleshooting problems, and performing timely repairs following safety and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install new HVAC systems, including ductwork, thermostats, refrigeration lines, and electrical components.
- Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning coils, changing filters, checking refrigerant levels, and testing system performance.
- Diagnose malfunctioning HVAC equipment and determine the root cause of issues.
- Repair or replace defective components such as compressors, motors, fans, wiring, or thermostats.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct system tests and inspections to ensure compliance with local codes and safety regulations.
- Provide customers with explanations of system conditions, repairs needed, and maintenance recommendations.
- Maintain accurate service records, work logs, inventory, and documentation.
- Follow workplace safety procedures and handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC technical training preferred.
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Type I, II, or Universal).
- Proven experience as an HVAC technician or apprentice.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical components, and refrigeration cycles.
- Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work in confined spaces, on roofs, and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods.
Preferred Skills
- Customer service and communication skills.
- Experience with smart thermostats and modern HVAC control systems.
- Basic computer or tablet literacy for digital work orders.
