About the Role
Express Employment Professionals is hiring an Industrial Chemist in the Cicero area. This role is ideal for a chemist with hands-on laboratory experience who can also support production operations. The position involves formulation, testing, and quality assurance of thermal transfer fluids used in a variety of industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulation & Development
- Develop and improve formulations for glycol-based, silicone-based, hydrocarbon, and other thermal fluids.
- Assess raw materials, stabilizers, corrosion inhibitors, and additives for quality and performance.
- Laboratory Testing & Quality Control
- Perform testing on raw materials, in-process, and finished goods (viscosity, thermal conductivity, flash point, oxidation stability, pH).
- Ensure products meet ASTM, DIN, ISO, and customer specifications.
- Performance & Technical Support
- Analyze stability, fouling tendencies, and thermal degradation under various conditions.
- Provide technical guidance to support customer needs and system performance.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare technical and safety data sheets (TDS, SDS).
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards including GHS and REACH.
- Production Support
- Partner with operations teams to troubleshoot blending or production issues.
- Ensure consistent batch quality and production reliability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 2-5 years of relevant industry experience (specialty fluids, petrochemicals, industrial chemicals).
- Hands-on knowledge of lab instruments (viscometers, spectrometers, flash point testers, analyzers).
- Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- ERP/LIMS system knowledge a plus.
Preferred:
- Experience with thermal systems in plastics, solar, pharma, or food industries.
- Familiarity with high- and low-temp thermal transfer fluids (-50°C to +400°C).
