Position Title: Laser and Punch Operator (Swing Shift)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2:15 PM - 10:45 PM
Compensation: $20-$24/hr.

Primary Job Function

This position is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating laser and punch machines to perform operations such as laser cutting, punching, blanking, shearing, forming, and drawing. The goal is to produce parts that meet print specifications with precision and efficiency. #1939ST

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols, including proper use of PPE.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Perform periodic preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Empty scrap bins and manage material flow.
• Approve parts produced by other operators and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Punch Operations

• Coordinate tool changes and select appropriate punch tolerances and die clearances.
• Deburr parts and protect finished components per cosmetic standards.
• Inspect and sharpen dies and punches to optimize tool usage.
• Communicate tooling needs and suggest process improvements.
• Position and secure punches and dies; adjust ram stroke and material stop gauges.
• Produce sample parts for inspection and adjust settings to meet quality and timing goals.
• Write basic programs and maintain punch tools and machines.

Laser Operations

• Set up and operate laser machines, including loading blanks, adjusting offsets, and modifying feed rates and pierce times.
• Use prints and overlays to align nozzle and controller settings.
• Shear parts to close tolerances for length, width, parallelism, and angle.
• Optimize material usage and troubleshoot cutting issues.
• Clean cutting heads and stack finished parts.

Qualifications

Required:

• Prior experience operating laser and/or punch machines.
• Ability to read and interpret technical prints.
• Proficiency with measuring tools (calipers, tape measure, etc.).
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Strong attention to detail and dependability.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Preferred:

• Forklift certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift.
• Frequent walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Regular lifting and moving of items up to 50 pounds.
• Visual acuity for close and distance vision, color differentiation, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, and temperature variations within OSHA limits.
