JOB OVERVIEW:
Quality Control Technician help ensures the products we produce are of the highest quality and ensure continued compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies. Quality Technicians enable conformance to specification through the verification of quality control protocols and/or monitoring of sampling and testing plans applied to packaging and product.
This resource also enables the reduction of food safety incidents and non-quality costs by the immediate escalation of any out-of-conformance condition detected during verification activities. In addition, this role supports the maintenance of quality knowledge and skills required in operation associates for the proper execution of quality control protocols and proper documentation and record keeping.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure that any quality or food safety issues are addressed and/or elevated to Plant Quality Manager
• Responsible for shift-based quality verification or monitoring activities for raw ingredients, packaging, and finished product.
• Verify conformance of finished product attributes and product defects following quality-approved standards and procedures.
• Verify proper execution of Code dates monitoring protocols to ensure product traceability is not compromised.
• Verify scale calibration accuracy/ activities.
• Initiate escalations for non-conforming products and processes.
• Provide support in incident investigations to enable proper risk assessment.
• Ensures that only approved documents are used in the plant for quality-related activities and archives quality-related records for further analysis or auditing purposes.
• Provides quality-related information to operators to enable quality control activities.
• Escalate to process areas any out-of-conformance incidents and collaborate in troubleshooting providing all information needed on product quality attributes until the process and product are back in control.
• Identify and isolate out-of-specification materials, including placing the product on hold, initiating non-conformances, and escalating to the correct associates. They are expected to collaborate closely with Production to ensure all non-conforming products are captured in-house.
• Verifies that procedures to complete quality-related documentation are properly executed and information in the records is complete.
• Sign off all quality check paperwork for all lines in accordance with company and FSMA guidelines.
• Provides coaching and training to operators to ensure proper execution of quality control protocols and proper record management.
• Be part of the Food Safety/ HACCP team and Internal Auditors group to support the quality and food safety continuous improvement program and CAPA's execution.
• Help to monitor pest control issues and 3rd party companies.
• Conduct Plant walk/multi-disciplinary inspections.
• Help to monitor corrective actions.
• Complete Sanitation Verification.
• Train other technicians on environmental monitoring procedures.
• Provide quality presence at new process/ production start-ups to evaluate food sanitation and food safety concerns.
• Conduct metal detection testing validation.
• Monitor chemical usage and titration.
• Approve new equipment that meets quality standards.
• Research production issues, complaints, and out-of-specification products to help come up with resolutions.
• Monitor and maintain records and assist in ensuring that sensitive productions are completed accurately as per described in formulations and sampling.
• Communicate and partner with plant management and production workers to increase food safety /quality programs or resolve any ongoing issues or non-conformances.
• An employee in this job must be thorough in maintaining records of their work and willing to communicate all relevant information to the Plant Quality Manager.
• All other tasks, duties, and responsibilities assigned by the Plant Quality Manager.
JOB EXPERIENCE:
2+ years of experience in manufacturing, food or beverage manufacturing preferred.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.
• Must be fluent in oral and written English. Spanish will be a plus.
• Must be able to use the computer for email communication, must be able to compose a document using Microsoft Word, and must be able to navigate around an Excel spreadsheet.
EDUCATION:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• The employee must be willing and able to attend and qualify for all required Quality and Food Safety Training both inside and outside the Company.
